iRobot has safe private commercial rights to grow an unmanned sea-faring robot from a group at the University of Washington.

The Bedford, Mass.-based guests made the announcement Tuesday at the yearly meeting for the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). Specifically, the harmony is to commercialize an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) called the Seaglider.

The Seaglider was urbanized by the Applied Physics Laboratory and the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington with the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research, which funded the opening foretell.

iRobot believes the Seaglider has armed application probable. The business's Government & Industrial Robots split, the same segment of the troupe that urban its martial PackBot, has been put in expense of developing the Seaglider, according to two iRobot sources.

A municipal report from co-creator and Chair Helen Greiner also showed the guests has military use in view.

"We have a strapping chase record for transferring new technology from inquiries initiatives into goods that funds military missions...Licensing the Seaglider from the University of Washington will help our robots beat new underwater frontiers," Greiner said.

As part of the treaty, the University of Washington will hold the rights to remain to polish and develop Seaglider robots for its own inquiries use, according to iRobot.
