Conditions on the moon will be harsher, but prototype NASA automatic vehicles braved smooth storms and unprecedented temperature swings this month on sand dunes near Moses Lake, Wash. to arrange for impending astral expeditions. Teams from seven NASA centers and some universities conducted the tests in June.

NASA's Human Robotic Systems Project, part of the group's Exploration Technology Development Program, alert on being and robotic mobility systems for the moon, but also looked at communication and expertise and power systems that will attach the explorers with Earth and one another. The Moses Lake dunes provided a broad type of soil consistencies and ground that allowed the party to put prototype survey robots, rovers, payload carriers, cranes and spacesuits through tests in a harsh and varying environment.

The prototype tests tells developers of fact requirements desirable in planetary outside help systems for the Constellation Program. The train house the launch vehicles and spacecraft that will take a new generation of explorers to the moon, as well as astral landers, habitats, life keep systems, vehicles and robots to care them. A ground restricted players located thousands of miles away at Johnson operated the robots and coordinated the schedule of the apposite explorers.

A new humanoid robot called Reem-B was unveiled on Wednesday at a happening on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emerites.

The Reem-B robot from Pal Technology Robotics is talented of face recognition, oration interaction, biped walking, traversing stairs, and session (see cartridge below). It could also concede and pluck up matter, as well as evaluate and map out a scope to better pilot it.

Reem-B stands at 4'10" (1.47 meters) tall and weighs about 132 pounds (60Kg). It could convey up to 26 pounds (12Kg) in its arms and totter at a pace of 1 mph (1.5Km/h). It could also climb stairs. Using a focal CPU that consists of a Core 2 Duo (1.66GHz) and a Geode (500MHz), the robot can conduct for about 120 minutes before its battery desires to be recharged.

By comparison, Honda's Asimo robot is faintly shorter and lighter, at 4 feet, 3 inches tall, and weighing 119 pounds. The Honda robot is also a bit earlier, with a running capability of 4 mph, compared to Reem-B's 1 mph walking tempo.

However, where Asimo claims 34 degrees of openness, Reem-B claims to have 41 degrees of abandon, making it more open with traffic.

Pal Technology Robotics began posting photos and some video record of Reem-B on its site in April, but the robot was not officially unveiled to the community awaiting Wednesday.

iRobot has safe private commercial rights to grow an unmanned sea-faring robot from a group at the University of Washington.

The Bedford, Mass.-based guests made the announcement Tuesday at the yearly meeting for the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). Specifically, the harmony is to commercialize an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) called the Seaglider.

The Seaglider was urbanized by the Applied Physics Laboratory and the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington with the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research, which funded the opening foretell.

iRobot believes the Seaglider has armed application probable. The business's Government & Industrial Robots split, the same segment of the troupe that urban its martial PackBot, has been put in expense of developing the Seaglider, according to two iRobot sources.

A municipal report from co-creator and Chair Helen Greiner also showed the guests has military use in view.

"We have a strapping chase record for transferring new technology from inquiries initiatives into goods that funds military missions...Licensing the Seaglider from the University of Washington will help our robots beat new underwater frontiers," Greiner said.

As part of the treaty, the University of Washington will hold the rights to remain to polish and develop Seaglider robots for its own inquiries use, according to iRobot.

We've seen amply of robots that shot to exhibit emotions, but nobody fairly like this Pomi penguin robot developed by Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, which can emit two unspecified smells besides employing some more normal means of charter you know how it feels. Those other options compose a "kindness box" on its chest that changes its heartbeat based on its mood, and mutable lips, eyebrows and pupils that'll let it make faces at you, along with the standard sensors to trail you around, and utter recognition to help it list some pre-programmed answers. Unlike some other like bots, however, this one is apparently ready to actually be commercially unfilled by the end of next month, though there's no word on an outlay tag just yet.

The designers also set out to "impart a form of pointer so that the customer could steer the robot lacking actually being dowry," and the existing type has been equipped with a partially-routine steeple and a wireless camera to give the controller a good outlook of the surroundings. We don't get the idea that this bugger has enlisted just yet (wader camp is a bore, you know), but be trusty and verify out the video of it prancing about after the recoil.

After sustained on his first day of training (which we call a test of our needs), we are forced to believe that this puppy is "the silliest robot you love." The Phoenix Mars Lander's robotic arm hit the planet in the field for the first time on Saturday. The effort, which has seven days after the lander touched down, is part of NASA's efforts to ball specimens red planet for experiments on the lander.

A giant "footprint" was left behind by the robotic arm of contact in the King of Hearts zone Mars. The mark, which was captured by the camera on the lander, looks like it could have been made by mythology Himalayas snowman. In reference to this, NASA has named the impression zone "Yeti".

The lander, the camera has also taken other images of the area under the lander, which has been dubbed the "Snow Queen". Images of the "Snow Queen" support site more NASA scientists assumptions that the region in and around the lander is composed of ice, according to a statement by Uwe Keller, the robotic arm of the device Research lead of the Max Planck Institute for research on solar systems.

NASA photos of this last event in Phoenix also offers a more philosophical reflection on the future of space exploration. Man of the first "footprint" in Mars was made by a robot slipping, not a step in humans.

In the series, they seem very impressed by the bot, and they think that it also call for more do-it-yourself d 'spirit of the people, because it is the young, with a large part to its wheelbase and unique tilt sensor with remote control. Bot contrast, the sensors were unable to detect anything on the ground under the chest, and had it seems a tendency to change from time to time, attempts to install walls (the ten minutes before the stored audio also seems to be how quickly it could be boring in real terms). If this is not in your favour, you can watch video after the break.

All robot-builders certainly don't have any shortage of kits to choose from these days, but this new self-descriptive ROBO Builder set looks to be a good deal more complete than most and, compared to the norm, is somewhat more reasonably priced. You can combine three different robots (known as Dino, Huno and Dogy) on the basis of the robot, which seemingly everyone can be programmed with various activities, or simply by a computer or on the remote control. You can also use your choice black or transparent kits, this last, in some offer much higher break-dancing skills. It is also much more expensive, with a cost of 660000 won ($ 630) compared to 450,000 ($ 430) for the basic version black.
